The A.A. in Liberal Arts degree provides an education that prepares you not just for a career but to take an active part in life as an engaged, informed citizen. This program, helps you develop skills needed to find and evaluate information, formulate your ideas, respond to others, and think critically. It exposes you to a range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. 


San Juan College’s two-year Liberal Arts Associate of Arts degree can help you develop the interpersonal skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills that are in high demand in the workplace. This degree can also prepare you to transfer to a four-year institution and major in a bachelor’s degree program in a liberal arts discipline within the humanities, social sciences, or sciences.

Transfer Options

The Liberal Arts degree is most popular with students who are planning to transfer to a four-year institution. If this is your goal, we encourage you to work closely with your academic advisor to coordinate your SJC coursework to meet the requirements of your transfer institution. If you are transferring to an institution in New Mexico, this includes completing the New Mexico Transfer Module outlined in the Academic Catalog.

Careers

With an A.A. degree in Liberal Arts, you can go on to major in a wide number of areas: psychology, social sciences, English/literature, foreign languages, gender studies, political science, law, and history. Careers can include Civil Service, Government, counseling, social work, teaching, management, sales, translator/interpreter, communications, public relations, publishing, and more.
